In general, when I
think of surveillance, what comes to my mind are the security cameras in
stores, and officers walking around making small notes here and there on a
notepad. With the services like Google
Maps and gps maps, it’s not too much of an invasion of privacy. The only
concern would probably be if the “street view” were at a much higher resolution
of image and at the same time live footage. My reasoning is that if such
features were enabled, then people would be able to look through the front
window of your homes and have a glimpse of the people and the interior of the
home. Also it would allow people to have access any time they want, and no one
wants some stranger to be spying on them.
In the
future a given would be the better hardware and software technology, so the
hypothesized features I mentioned before would be possible. The chance of
surveillance being more invasive is high as well. House security would probably
be the most invasive, since some security companies have ways to monitor the
interior of almost every room in households. Although to counteract the whole
privacy deal, the surveillance would hopefully be improved to the point where
crime rates drop.
